Install the Orbit Extension for GitHub

The **Orbit Chrome extension** brings Orbit data right into GitHub, allowing you to view a contributor's activity on your repo and in general, as well as information like Orbit Level, Reach, and Points.

You can also add members from GitHub directly to your Orbit workspace.

📘

Install the Chrome extension

📘

View the extension on GitHub and read the blog post about open-sourcing it.

Setting up the extension

First, install the extension.

Once the extension is installed, right-click on the icon and click Options.

You'll be asked to enter your API key, which you can find on your Account Settings page: https://app.orbit.love/user/edit

Recently, Chrome has started tucking away some extensions in a menu to save space. If you don’t see the Orbit logo in your Extensions bar, click the puzzle icon to the right-hand side and click the “three dots” button near the Orbit extension. You can then click Options and enter your API key.

Using the extension

Once setup is complete, navigate to any issue or pull request. You should now see an Orbit icon in the header of each comment. Click the icon to see more information.

For members who are already in your workspace, you'll see contribution data + Orbit data.

You can also view contribution information for GitHub users who are not currently in your workspace, and optionally add them to your workspace.

Troubleshooting

If you're using an ad blocker, be sure to allow app.orbit.love, otherwise you might see this error:

If you haven't entered your API key, you'll see this message:

Manually updating the extension

The extension will update automatically to newer versions. If, however, you need to update it right away, it is possible to do so manually.

Go to chrome://extensions, activate the Developer Mode toggle in the top-right corner, and click on the “Update” button. Note: this will update all of your extensions.
