Set up the Orbit Twitter integration

This guide will walk you through setting up the Twitter integration.

The Orbit Twitter integration allows you to connect one or more Twitter accounts to your workspaces.

The integration will automatically create an Activity for any mention of connected accounts, and it will save that Activity to an existing member's profile. If the tweet is from a person not already associated with your workspace, Orbit will create a new member.

You can also track other keywords, like you company name, relevant hashtags, and URLs.

Initially, Orbit will create activities and members for the 800 of the most recent mentions. It will not import followers who have never mentioned your account or tracked keywords.

📘

Integrating Twitter is a two-step process. First, you'll connect a Twitter account to your user. Then, you'll attach the account to a workspace.

Connect a Twitter account to your user

First, head to the Linked Accounts section of your Account Settings page. If you've already connected the Orbit GitHub integration, you'll see it there.

To get started, click "Connect Twitter."

📘

Much like the GitHub integration, the Twitter integration connects at the user level and is added to relevant workspaces.

“Connect Twitter" will take you to Twitter's authorization screen. The app asks for read-only permissions. Click Authorize App.

🚧

By default, Twitter will install the Orbit app to whichever Twitter account you're currently logged into. So be sure to login to the appropriate account before connecting.

If successful, Twitter will send you back to Orbit and you'll see your linked Twitter account:

Attach a Twitter account to a Workspace

Now, navigate to the workspace where you'd like to add the integration.

Click Settings in the navigation, then scroll to the Integrations area.

Click Add integration. You'll then see a list of available integrations to add to this workspace.

Once you add the relevant Twitter account, Orbit will begin importing mentions of the linked accounts. We're able to import up to 800 of the most recent mentions. This usually takes 1-2 minutes.

📘

For members created from this integration, the "joined" date will be the date they followed your account.

Orbit will attach tweets to existing member profiles, or will create new members if the person who tweeted doesn't already exist in Orbit.

On the Activity page, you can filter activities by All Twitter.

All new tweets will appear on the Activity page, as well as on the member profile of whomever sent the tweet.

Customize what you track

Click the Settings link in the nav to visit the Workspace Settings page, then scroll down to Integrations and click Edit for the relevant Twitter account.

The next screen will allow you to preview and save up to five keyword searches.

Note that a Twitter account can be attached to only one workspace at a time.

Connecting multiple Twitter accounts to a workspace

  1. Click your avatar in the header and choose “Account Settings”
  2. Scroll down to Linked Accounts and connect the Twitter account.
  3. Visit the Settings page of the workspace you’d like to connect the account to.
  4. Scroll down and click “Add integration”.
  5. Choose the Twitter account you connected in the previous step.
